How's everyone's day?For me, today has been a alright day. Much better than yesterday. Now that was 'one of those days'......AND I made it though in one piece. But others out there probably haven't had a great day, or week, or even month. Probably doing a great job of either hiding their problem or just not talking about it.Taking even two minutes to check up on a mate, friend, or co-Worker could go a very long way to helping them. Just the feeling that someone cares can be amazing! If you're not sure what to say, check out the link below to the Black Dog Institute. And have a great day#stompouththestigma #no2bootsno2minds

Its been a hell of a day, thats for sure. I gave two presentations at Aurelia Metals Peak Gold Mines (PGM) to the Mining Teams today to introduce the Crawford Boots and Dirty Hole Designs Steven Poznik's 'Stomp Out The Stigma' Mental Health Campaign. Normally I'm never nervous about speaking to groups about anything but found myself literally shaking with nerves. Who'd of thought speaking openly about mental health would be so hard.I think I managed to get the message out without mucking it up too much. And thankyou to everyone who stopped in for a chat afterwards. Together we can Stomp Out The Stigma surrounding Mental Health.A special shout out to the Management at PGM for allowing me to speak.

As anyone who has followed my posts will see, I have become a big supporter of Crawford Boots and Dirty Hole Designs 'Stomp Out the Stigma' Campaign that will be running through June. The campaign is aimed at reducing the stigma associated with those suffering from mental health issues and encouraging them to seek the support and help they need, while also raising funds for the Black Dog InstituteFor people with mental health issues, the social stigma and discrimination they experience can make their problems worse, making it harder to recover. It may cause the person to avoid getting the help they need because of the fear of being stigmatised. Some of the effects of stigma include:• Feelings of shame, hopelessness and isolation• Reluctance to ask for help or to get treatment• Lack of understanding by family, friends or others• Fewer opportunities for employment or social interaction• Bullying, physical violence or harassment• Self-doubt – the belief that you will never overcome your illness or be able to achieve what you want in life.We all have a role to play in creating a mentally healthy community – one that is inclusive, rejects discrimination and supports recovery. Ways to help include:• Learning the facts about mental illness and sharing them with family, friends, work colleagues and classmates• Getting to know people with personal experiences of mental illness so you learn to see them for the person they are rather than their illness.• Not judging, label or discriminate when you meet people with mental illness. Treat all people with respect and dignity.• Avoiding using language that puts the illness first and the person second. Say ‘a person with bipolar disorder’ rather than ‘that person is bipolar’.• Saying something when you hear people around you making stereotypical or inaccurate comments about mental illness.• Sharing your own experience of mental illness (if you have experienced it). This will help dispel myths and encourage others to do the same.Mental illness is not something shameful that needs to be hidden.#no2bootsno2minds

According to theWorld Health Organization, more than 700,000 people die due to suicide every year. The organization also notes that one of the barriers to effective care is the social stigma associated with mental disorders. It's time to Stomp out the Stigma of Mental Health.
