Thinking of a fertility test?

There are a number of fertility tests to understand why you may be struggling with getting pregnant. The best way to find out whether there are any medical reasons that is preventing you from conceiving or to know more about your fertility status, is to seek help from a specialist. These tests will differ slightly depending on your clinical circumstances, however, none of the tests are said to be painful or intolerable.

Female fertility tests

A comprehensive female fertility test, sometimes referred to as a fertility MOT, will cover tests to check ovarian reserve or egg health, tubes and pelvis. When you undertake a fertility test in London your consultant will take the time to get to know you, they will require information about your medical history, menstrual history, sexual life and also your lifestyle.

Whilst these basic MOT tests can differ depending on which clinic you go to, here is what is included when you turn to LIGC for your fertility test in London. The basic MOT will check egg health or ovarian reserve. The blood tests along with an ultrasound scan for antral follicle count, provides information about the quantity and quality of your eggs. You can also get a more in-depth information with complete MOT that involves a special ultrasound scan, HyCoSy, to check the fallopian tubes too.

No matter which option you choose, you will also receive a consultation to discuss any findings. If the consultant thinks that you will benefit from fertility treatment then they will also discuss the different options available with you too.

Male fertility tests

Similarly to a female fertility test, when you attend a male fertility test a consultant will start by getting to know a bit more about you and your body. All of the questions they ask will be regarding factors that can affect your fertility.

Again, tests can differ from clinic to clinic, but the fertility tests in London that we carry out at the London IVF and Genetics Centre are specifically designed to check things such as your sperm count. All basic tests involve a semen analysis checking a range of parameters including concentration and motility, morphology and anti-sperm antibodies. More in-depth tests will also include oxidative stress test, sperm DNA fragmentation index or sperm aneuploidy. These tests look for prevalence of oxidative damage, screening for silent infections, damage to genetic material and genetic abnormality in sperm cell.

Male fertility tests in London also include semen analysis and a full consultation with fertility specialist to help you to understand what the results mean. They can also then help you to decide how to proceed in regards to treatment.
