A Chevrolet spokesperson has confirmed that production of this highly anticipated model has commenced on November 10th at the Fairfax plant in Kansas. The first Bolts are expected to hit dealerships in January 2026, and here's the exciting part: this new generation is set to make waves.
In the US market, it's customary to label models with the following year, so even though sales begin in 2026, this beauty will be known as the 2027 model year. GM unveiled some key specs at a customer event in October, and they're impressive: a range of approximately 410 kilometers (255 miles) and a rapid-charging power boost to 150 kW.
But here's where it gets controversial... The Bolt, along with its discontinued sibling, the Bolt EUV, are no longer lone rangers in GM's lineup. They now share their tech with the Chevrolet Equinox EV, including a powerful 157 kW motor and a 65 kWh battery seamlessly integrated into the vehicle's floor.
And the best part? The price! GM is using more cost-effective LFP cells in the new Bolt's battery, making it more affordable. The LT trim with the Comfort Package will start at $29,990 (around 25,850 euros), and there are even more basic and sporty options available at competitive prices.
The options don't stop there. You can upgrade to the semi-autonomous SuperCruise system for an additional $3,000, and there's also the GM PowerUp 2 NACS Charger wallbox available for $899. Or, for those who want the ultimate in-home charging experience, there's the PowerShift wallbox, which allows vehicle-to-home charging.
GM's decision to discontinue the first-generation Bolt in 2023 was met with criticism, as these models were some of the most popular and affordable electric vehicles in North America. With this second generation, GM is once again offering an accessible electric car to US consumers, and the Bolt will be significantly more affordable than its technical sibling, the Equinox EV, which currently starts at $35,100.
