Good morning, Broncos Country.
The Denver Broncos finished 8-9 and tied for second place in the AFC West under Head Coach Sean Payton in 2023. This season, the Broncos have much higher aspirations and are hoping to improve into a playoff caliber squad. But they have a lot of work to do to get there, but the real rubber meets the road in a little over two weeks when training camp officially commences.
The franchise made a myriad of changes during the offseason and added a bunch of players via free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft. The biggest addition was the selection of Oregon quarterback Bo Nix in the first round. It’s still far too early to know, but many assume he will win the starting job during training camp and hit the ground running as a rookie.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Nix is one of the players I’m most focused for this year’s training camp. Frankly, I’m not really interested in seeing a multi-game stretch of either Jarrett Stidham or Zach Wilson at quarterback this coming season. And quite frankly, I’m not sure why any fan across Broncos Country would want that either.

In addition to Nix, I’m also anxious to see how wideout Marvin Mims looks in his second season with the team. After making some big plays early on in the year, Mims’ utilization faded as last season progressed. It’s something Payton had spoked about regretting over the course of the offseason, a Mims appeared to be the proverbial Missing Man on the Milk Carton relative to the Broncos’ offensive endeavors in 2023.
If the Broncos’ offense is going to improve upon their 19th in points scored and 26th in total yards rankings from last year, getting Mims more looks is absolutely essential. I’m looking at a minimum of 80 targets for him this season. For perspective, he had only 33 all of last season which is basically only two targets a game. That has to change in 2024.
On the defensive side of the ball, I’m very eager to see how John Franklin-Myers helps improve the Broncos’ defensive line. That unit struggled a lot of last year especially against the run. I’m hoping that his quality level of play can help bolster the unit as a whole and improve their overall efficacy in 2024.
— Andrew Mason (@MaseDenver) July 4, 2024It was a frustrating rookie season for Riley Moss, but he did have the moment in a game where he realized, "‘Why not me? This is football." Now he appears ready for more.
Additionally, I’m intrigued by second-year defensive back Riley Moss who missed most of last year due to injury. Two drafts ago, the Broncos traded a future third-round selection to secure him. It will be interesting to see where he gets deployed in their defensive secondary. As of now, I’d expect early reps on the boundary, but also time at nickelback given his versatility.
How about you? What players are you most looking forward to seeing during training camp? Are there any players you think are going to surprise and carve themselves a bigger role than we think? Sound off in the comments section and let me know!
